Joshua A. Maginn
1984 - 2007
At only 23 years old, Joshua A. Maginn was filled with vigor. He enriched the lives of his family and friends and selflessly served his country. But on Sunday, July 22, 2007, Josh's life was extinguished when he died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. His life may have been brief, and the grief associated with his loss is enormous. However, his accomplishments, interests, and personal relationships will linger in the minds and hearts of each person who had the pleasure of knowing him. And even if you didn't meet him personally, he was proud to fight for your freedoms because he believed it was the right thing to do. Joshua came into this world on the first day of summer, June 21, 1984. He was the only child born to Keith A. and Rose M. (Haling) Maginn. He attended Central Jr. High School in Zion, and Lincoln Jr. High in Kenosha. He was a 2003 graduate of Tremper High School. Even in high school Josh was multifaceted. He worked at Villa D'Carlo Restaurant; served as a mentor for grade school children; and exploded on the football field. At Tremper he was a member of the Varsity Football Team, but he also played semi-pro football for the Racine Horsemen as a middle line backer, defensive end and tight end. Following high school, Joshua enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served as a Lance Corporal as an Infantryman with the Fox Co., Third Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, where he fought in Iraq and assisted with humanitarian efforts in Africa. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge. Following his service, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves where he served until his death. He was also a member of the Laborers Local #76, and was employed with Aldridge Electric in Chicago. Not only did Josh have a world-class smile, but he had a way with telling jokes that was hugely engaging! He was a true outdoorsman - from snowmobiling, to hunting to fishing… Josh loved it all. Even his dogs, Morgan and Brandi, shared plenty of outdoor time with Josh. Although physically gone, Joshua's memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved so much; father, Keith (Sue) Maginn of Zion; mother, Rose (Todd Shwaiko) Haling of Kenosha; paternal grandmothers, Phyllis "Pat" Maginn of Silver Lake and Mary Zuraitis of Waukegan; maternal grandparents, Laurence and Helen Haling of Wausau, Wis; paternal great grandfather, Lee Fons of Waukegan; and many loving nieces and nephews, including his precious niece, Ariana. Joshua was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Maginn. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for Josh will be held on Thursday, July 26, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the family would be appreciated. The family asks that you take a moment and hug your children. Tell them that you love them, and never take one thing for granted. Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home 3720 39th Avenue Kenosha, Wisconsin 53144 262-658-4101 Online Condolences at www.piasecki-althaus.com
