The information below was taken from the Great Lakes Watercross site today 6/1/2009. I would like to get this cleared up before the next round of racing. When I signed up for round two I registered in Nov R/A Limited and Vintage open. I payed full price for my Vintage class. I believe I should of payed less for that class according to the site. I know I was not the only one who noticed this. Scott can you clarify this for us Vintage racers?

SPORT SPEC and VINTAGE SKI CLASSES

2009 will bring some changes to the race classes for both Vintage Ski and Sport. We are going to have a Sport Spec. class this year for all you Yamaha Wave Blaster and Sea-Doo HX * riders. This will open the door for all the folks with these fine boats to have a competitive class to race in. The rules are basic, Sea-Doo HX must be stock under the hood with handling mods only. The Yamaha Wave Blaster will be a Limited package under the hood, and handling changes.

The Open Vintage Ski class will remain the same (anything goes). A second class will be offered for Vintage Ski (550cc and 650cc). 2002 standups and older, also some of the newer Yamaha Superjets are eligible to race in these classes.

This will continue our leading the way for the owners of older watercraft out there who are looking for a fun and inexpensive outlet to enjoy racing on the lakes and rivers with GREAT LAKES WATERCROSS. The fee for the class will be $20.00, when you race any other additional class. $40.00 if you register for the one Vintage Class alone. You also must have a current competition card.

All these classes will be trophy only at this point. Trophies will be awarded only if there are ten or more paid entries in a class. They may be a IJSBA World Finals, and National Champ Class.

*other boats will be eligible to enter this class Kawasaki X-2, some Polaris watercraft also. Click on the link below for the class rules.

Do you have a current competition card? It says that after the red you highlighted? That may make a difference.

Yes that just means you must have a IJSBA card to compete in the Vintage classes as well.

Everyone that raced has a current card after saturday...

Better yet though. Why does the Expert and Pro/Am Classes pay more than the other classes when the prize is the same? Typically the higher entry fee is due to 50% payback, we have not seen a payback of anything (besides the dash for cash) since the '07 season.

Anyrate, the racing season has started so people better start racing. Good first weekend for all.

Jeremiah, i would maybe call scott to verify this. We (staff) were never informed of this before the start of the weekend.. So i'm thinking that maybe it had been applied to pre-registered racers.. but dont take my word for it, I could be wrong there as well.. Give Scott a ring :)

I'm gonna guess that it's more of a website/programming issue than anything. I know when I was checking out the online registration page a few weeks back, there didn't seem to be any kind of automatic mechanism for adjusting the vintage entry fee down to $20 once you signed up for one of the other "regular" classes. Also, since vintage "needed" to be $40 for several racers on saturday (to qualify for the free IJSBA cards), it was probably just left that way for rounds 1 and 2. Just my guess...

I also wonder if the online registration form has the ability to be utilized per the special vintage entry offer? I can see where it gets a bit confusing. Also, what happens if someone signs up for a "regular" class, and then also signs up for 750 vintage AND 550/650 vintage? Do they qualify for a $20 entry fee on both vintage classes? Would the online form be able to process that? I could see where it would end up being a lot of screwing around.

Vintage is Vintage, there should only be one Vintage. Division just creates smaller classes. End of Story.

I was informed this morning that its actually a mistake on the website. It shouldnt state that anywhere on the site. That "reduction" of price was used in previous years, but for the 09 season the vintage entry fee will remain $40 for all racers, regardless of how many classes an individual has entered. The reasoning behind this is because all of the entry fees were reduced in price from the previous year. Scott will have to adjust this on the website so there wont be any confusion.

Jamie thank you for the clarification on this. I know asked this yesterday but just looked over the site this morning and saw the info about the reduced price and wanted to see what was correct.

On top of this, all other entry fees were reduced this year so in reality there is money to be saved across the board, unless your only class is vintage. Even an IJSBA card is $25 less than an APBA card. The IJSBA is the place to race in. GLWT just held a great event, and from what I have heard the IJSBA national event in NY was also a great event.

I got a phone call regarding this and thought it necessary to make a post.

Originally we were going to handle the Vintage class registration as we did in previous years however; we faced a lot of difficult decisions at the onset of the season and several things changed JUST prior to our first race. We weighed our final decisions in the best interest of YOU - the racers and we decided that instead of offering the reduced rate for the Vintage Class, we wouldn’t raise the overall registration fees for all the classes (a small cost savings for every racer vs. a reduced rate for Vintage Ski only).

The online registration is correct as it is and the girls at registration did their jobs accurately.

It’s unfortunate that we did overlook changing the verbiage (in red above, directly quoted from the GLW website) and I apologize for any confusion this caused. This question was not asked by a single racer during registration on Saturday or Sunday morning, however it was brought to my attention on Sunday evening as we were getting ready to leave the site. I informed that individual that I would look into this on our website and get back to him as soon as I could – again I apologize for a correction not being posted to the website but it will be done as soon as I get home from work today.

Never commented that there should or shouldn't be 2 vintage classes. Just said there was 2, and asked the "what if" question that related to it. My eyesight isn't always good enough to read between the lines I guess...

From scott's comments to me, I think his thought was to always run both vintage classes together and just score them separately - thus attracting more 650 and under skis (hopefully). For the record, I would have no quarrel with limiting racers to only choosing 1 vintage class, so it could always be run as a single group.
