Time for a rant.
All of my rec skis, my backup SJ, and my sport spec blaster are set up to run on 93 octane conventional fuel - not the useless reformulated crap that's been forced upon us and already proven to be a failure both environmentally and economically - don't believe me? - I'll send you some links from unbiased sources that study crap like this and have determined how ethanol is bad for our environment in more ways than one.
Anyhow, since I'm just 10 minutes from walworth county, where the reformulated crap gas was and still is NOT mandated, getting quality 93 octane fuel hasn't been much trouble for me - until today...
Now, thanks to federal mandates that force minimum amounts of ethanol crap gas down our throats, even counties not required to sell the garbage are often forced to sell it, since it's all they can get from the local fuel distributors now. (You see, since ethanol can't be shipped in a pipeline and trucking it is too expensive, and states with a backbone, like texas, refuse to accept the garbage anyhow, we wind up with more than our fair share of crappy ethanol in the states where the corn is grown.). Oh, and the best part is how many of the farmers getting rich off govt subsidised corn/ethanol production refuse to burn the sh it in their own vehicles.
Sooooooo, anyhow, now I can't even get 93 octane conventional fuel in walworth county. All of their 87 and 89 is now reformulated sh it, and their best conventional fuel is 91 octane. Guess it's time to start dumping a half gallon or so of 110 into each tankful that goes in my skis that like/need 93.
F-ing politicians. This is the sh it that happens when we vote the wrong people into office and then re-elect them far too many damn times.
Where's everybody buying their race fuel nowadays, and how much are you paying???

Yeah, during my rant I didn't really mean all farmers in general, but those that profit off the farming industry producing a sh itty product that's subsidised by the govt and forced down our throats against our will. Friggin' ethanol lobbyists feed cash to the politicians to get them elected, then the politicians pay back their ethanol buddies to the detriment of everyone who uses gasoline.
Can anyone say TERM LIMITS!!!???
Tree huggers who love ethanol are too dense to realize that we're leveling forests to create more land to grow more corn, now that we're using our food to make fuel. Anyhow.............
Yeah, I did give you chad's number. He was ok with me at first then dicked me around on his prices. He was $2-3 per gallon higher on 110 last year than the 3 other places I know of within 20 minutes of me, so I stopped wasting my time with him. Also, his non-vented 5 gallon containers were a pain anyhow. I much prefer to buy it out of the pump. However, I'm at the point now where I should just be bringing in 55-gal drums anyhow. Maybe I'll try him again and see.
Anybody know of other race gas suppliers in SE WI that sell drums? I'd like to compare some prices.

Chad will sell and deliver drums of 110 for $315, gets the price down to $5.73/gallon. Not bad.
Anybody know a good place to buy a drum pump, or have one to sell, or suggest a simple and cheap way to maybe siphon the fuel out of a drum?

Thanks to john for calling me this a.m. with some advice.
Got 2 muni airports within 10 min of me (burlington and east troy) that I should have checked out years ago, but never thought to. Just went online and found they sell 24hr self-serve 100LL avgas ($3.19 and $3.29 per gallon, respectively). Seems like that would be my easiest and cheapest alternative - the east troy airport is literally almost next to where I had been buying my 93 octane conventional fuel. Guess now I'll get the 91 good gas and just splash in a bit of 100LL for my rec skis. Simple.

Bush isn't why we have crap gas in wisconsin. It's because doyle, the dems in the state senate, and a few of the rino rebublicans in the state senate that all take money from the ethanol lobbyists. In the beginning, they all could at least claim (with a semblance of credibility) that ethanol was a logical alternative to good gas. Now, they've all been proven wrong, the experiment has failed, yet we still have to put up with the sh it. Like I said before, can anyone say TERM LIMITS!!! I think you're a bit confused on this joe. Ethanol is an alternative to petroleum-based fuels. Consuming ethanol means there will be less oil consumed, theoretically. Yes, fuels with ethanol do produce lower mpg's in most vehicles. However, the % of reduction in mpg's is about equal to the % of ethanol in the fuel - so the net result is the consumption of the petroleum-based fuel doesn't change much anyhow when ethanol is blended into the fuels we burn in our cars.
Most of the studies I've read find that with 10% ethanol in the fuel, a typical vehicle's mpg's drop 7 to 10%. I've been checking all my vehicle's mpg's with every tankful for 20 years now. In my escort, I've gone from an average of 32 mpg on good gas to right about 30 mpg on the crap gas. That's about a 7% drop. My wife's highlander and my dad's F-150 both dropped 9 or 10% since burning crap gas. I see that you've said crap gas cuts your mileage in half??? I've yet to see any scientific study to substantiate anything even close to that, nor have I met anyone (besides you) making similar claims about the ethanol crap gas. Perhaps you track your gas milege just as I do? I don't know...
Long story short, if you make your $$$ selling oil, then watching someone else make $$$ selling ethanol isn't gonna make you feel good - and watching the gov't subsidize that ethanol production really shouldn't sit well with you. If ethanol were to somehow become a viable fuel source, then that is only going to decrease our use and dependency on petroleum-based fuels. That's the whole point of alternative forms of energy - to burn less fossil fuels, not more. The whole failure of this ethanol experiment is that growing corn to make fuel decreases our consumption of oil only a little to not at all, it ruins engines, hurts the environment more than it helps it, and it drives our food prices through the roof. Crazy high food prices hurts poor people WAY more than it hurts rich people, since poor people have enough trouble affording food as it was before ethanol (side note: just like crazy cigarette taxes hurt poor people WAY more than rich people - since poor people make up the majority of smokers in the US), yet these poor people keep electing politicians that claim to be the party of the common man.
Gotta watch out for which politicians keep proposing things like ethanol mandates, ethanol subsidies, and cig taxes to know how much they REALLY care about the common man...

I check mileage on all my cars and motorcycles. When I fill up, it takes me 4 seconds to look at the tripmeter, do the math in my head, and reset the tripmeter. My main motivation for tracking mileage is to realize sooner than later when I may have a problem that needs to be corrected (dirty air filter, bad plug wires, etc...). A $30 set of plug wires can soon cost me $300 in wasted gas if I'm not paying attention enough to notice a drop in fuel consumption. It's not pinching pennies, it's just not foolishly wasting money. Plus, my brain is wired to pay attention.
Cars, to me, with the exception of cars used for toys or collector's items, are simply consumable items I need to get me from A to B. I generally buy new, then run them until they're used up or I roll them in a ditch (only done that once so far).
I didn't vote for doyle, so complaining about the taxes he's raised and how he's repeatedly sold out our state in favor of special interests (like ethanol) that donate to his campaign fund seems quite logical to me. Wisconsin's biggest ethanol supporters have been doyle, the democrats in the state senate, and few rino republicans in the state senate that represent districts where corn is grown. If you're angry with bush because we have to burn ethanol in wisconsin, I'm sorry, but your anger is misdirected.
Yep, I shunned politics here recently then brought them back in with my rant. I apologize. However, in this particular instance, politics is actually having a direct effect on the sport we all enjoy. If you'd prefer that I delete this thread, just let me know, and I will.
Tax cigs, then tax weed, then tax beer... It's called incrementalism. It's how political agendas that voters disagree with gain traction and things get passed right under our very noses, until we realize what went on one day and say WTF? Then it's too late...
My escort is 10 years old now and it has 152k on the clock, plus I've been abusing it by towing 3 skis on a trailer far too many times. The next major breakdown will probably mean the end of that consumable item :).

I'm not going to go into detail, but Doyle and his henchmen have done more to waste the tax payers dollar than most WI citizens will ever care to know. Fact, YES Proven time and time again. Just looks at the millions he over spends on hiring consultants. Want the facts? I'll provide the studies just ask.
There is my 2 cents.

I already admitted to what you called me a kettle for, I apologized for it, and I offered to delete the thread as well. Would you prefer that I now take a hammer and bash myself in the knee a few times as punishment for being naughty?
I honestly don't care to discuss politics for the mere sake of politics via the internet, but like I already said, in this instance we have politics directly affecting the sport that ties all of us in this forum together.

I'm not pissed in the least, and you're the last guy in the world I'd ever get pissed at anyhow. Yes, the ethanol has been here a while - I think we've had it in racine county for as long as you've had it in kenosha. I've just been paying close attention to how it's come about from the beginning - in fear of the day when I couldn't even drive to walworth county to get the fuel I need. Now this day has come, and I just want to give credit for it where credit is due.
For your sake joe, I'll pray that the new beer tax doesn't see the light of day [:p][:p][:p]. However, if doyle does try for that one, I think that will be the final nail in his political coffin...
