Well I was thinking about getting more people into our sport... beginner class is key...Please feel free to add of bash anything i have to say... I am not as sensitive as some of our "expert" riders..
1. it needs to be afordable
2. we need to get patrick mel to have the apba one day licence to work for a weekend instead of one day..
3. need to have a price up front for the race including everything, this should be easy. .. it will cost me ?!?!?! for this weekend. what ever it happens to be..
4.we need to make up some flyers to spread the work with costs, times and places on it..
5.we need to ante up a few of our old medels to give to the beginners so the get somthing.. if we each gave a couple.. what ever.. it will also help with cost for scott to keep things a little cheaper..
6. rewards program, nothing big.. for every racer that brings in a new guy.. like a trophy or somthing at the end of the year.. most helpful to the sport award.. and a ice cold and de-lish-us beer..mmmmmmmm

anything bueler bueler

There he goes again.:D I'll show you sensitive.;) I plan on going to some spring open houses at some of the local delearships. And setting up my XPL on hope to get the delearship to bring out some of them new 4 strokes that can be raced. And see what they have around for used one to see what ones will work from there. Other can do the same.

If we have fliers my job would work well for spreading them. I put about 3500-5000 miles a month in WI, IL, MN, and sometimes IA. Lets do this. I would like to see full lines wether it is ski or R/A.

Ditch the late fees for beginners and first timers...

What about the Minneapolis boat show? January 21st to january 25th? Contact someone and ask if they will put up buisness cards or posters? The twin city but pirates had some buisness cards at the St. Boni booth.

What we all pitched in $5 and had someone like Ronny Mac make us a design? I could see if the art guy where my dad works would make a poster for us? He can make posters as big as a grown adult lol The printer is like 4 feet wide and can go as long as you want

Offering to bring first-timers with you to a race (if you've got the room in your hauler/trailer), or offering to caravan with them is one option as well. I know when I came to my first race in '06, I really knew nobody that raced, and I knew very little about what to expect. I was mainly concerned with not embarrassing myself and not getting hurt, than I was concerned with having fun. The info on the GLW site that explained some things for first-timers was helpful, but having an actual experienced racer person, that I could trust to help me a bit, would have been that much better.

Basically, what we need is some kind of "adopt-a-newbie" racer program, where each of us takes the responsibility and initiative to make sure all of the needs and concerns of a newbie are addressed - and they pit with you as well. That is the kind of the approach I was going after when I tried to offer the race clinics last season. However, not having the course set up by late Friday afternoon severely limited the value of the clinic.

Anyhow, whether we do an adoption program and/or race clinics, these things need to be promoted prominently on the website AND by all the current racers. Success of such ideas requires that the GLW tour management and the racers get on board and on the same page with stuff like this. Otherwise, if it's just one or two racers trying to do what they can w/o any real backing, the maximum benefit of their efforts will never be fully realized. Also, even if fellow racers aren't able to volunteer their time towards such efforts, they have to at least respect those that do and not undermine their efforts - for obvious reasons.

Oh, and the best part of an adoption program and/or race clinics is that we can literally do them for FREE, right? Basically, they can be promoted on the GLW site, the other forums, and maybe a small section of any tour flyers can include a message to beginners/newbies. All of which costs essentially nothing to anyone, except the racers who are happy to volunteer their time to help grow the sport.

One last "oh". Oh, and the new racers that join the sport as a result of an adoption program/race clinic will be likely to want to return the favor and do the same for next year's newbies, right? Can anyone say SNOWBALL EFFECT ;)?

Well, here ya go:
http://www.apbaracing.com/2009/news/090118_news_apba_mentor.pdf

The APBA is finally printing the kind of stuff I've been saying :).

Who wants to apply?

We could do that easily... If we had one person in each site to help out the 1st timers we wouldnt have to dedicate the whole season either... i would be happy to help the runabout guys in pp and kenosha.. we need a ski guy for them two races and need people to step up for the other tour stops... the other thing i was thinking was one time only pricing... one race for a 1st timer or beginner for the cost of the insurance threw apba plus 10.00 total of 30.. i dont know if scott would go for that but i think it would help the new guys getting started... next day charge acordingly or at a discounted rate again but i know with these times we need to get people involved but we cant cut our own throat either... but as we all know it only takes one time to really get hooked..

I am also going to print up some business cards for the forum here. That way we could stick them up with the flyers as well. This will give those with questions a place to ask. Could also put the race dates on the back of them.
