Has anyone been watching what's going on in a few other regions regarding this Sport Spec class?

Any thoughts/interest here?

APBA survey on this should be going out soon.

I may have some interest in it. I was thinking of building an X2.

I want to build one for more than just racing. Maybe a little freestyle.

Would wet bikes be able to enter a race?

Only if you duct tape 2 inches of closed-cell foam padding over that front death blade. :)

New and improved "finalized" rules for Sport Spec:
http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=195902

I sent a link on this to Scott and asked for his thoughts, but haven't gotten a response. Anyone hear anything from him on it, or have any further thoughts of their own? It's looking like a few other regions are going to have enough Sport Spec riders to run 2 heats, an LCQ, and a Main. Imagine that. Actual qualifying heats at regional races. I know running a bunch of 14 year-old machines doesn't help the OEMs very directly, but the entry fees sure gotta help the promoters - at least a little, right?

Time to start shopping for your $1500 blaster, hx, x2, (or Hurricane - yikes!!!). If anyone needs helping finding a blaster or dialing in a blaster, I'll be happy to volunteer my time...

I am thinking less than 1500 for a x2. I already have the 750 for the build. Just need some of Joe's time for a little glass and carbon work on a junk hull.

True, x2s can be had for well under $1500. However, to be realistically competitive against a decent spec blaster/hx, a budget of $1500 would probably be the minimum for a x2 - either for the machine or for the personal trainer and bally's membership :D.

Well look at me riding a 750SX in the vintage class. I am out handled by 90% of the class there and still have fun doing it. I have the motor, eletronics, and pipe to do the 750 swap. Not much more needed to at least make it a fun boat.

Oh, I KNOW you'll have fun out there JB no matter what. Me too. If you read all the pwc today stuff on the sport spec class, having fun and keeping costs affordable are the two main premises for even having sport spec. Affordable fun SHOULD help to fill the lines. From looking at other regions' plans for 2009, sport spec may make most of the other classes look small.

Why did you move this thread to the R/A section? Blasters, x2s, and HXs aren't runabouts :). Maybe have to start a new section???

Anyhow JB, if you're building a rec X2 anyhow, that's great. If you're thinking seriously about Sport Spec, then you know who to contact, right? Also, don't forget to go to the APBA site and suggest it in the survey that just went out yesterday. 3 or 4 of the Blaster guys that ride at Bender might be interested as well.

So are suggesting that I talk to Joe about building a HX to get serious?
